Tour ‘C’ – Discovery Tour of the Western Lake District

This full day tour takes us west to visit the famous Eskdale Valley and the West Cumbrian historic Roman port of Ravenglass, as well as visiting Wastwater, England’s deepest lake. Enjoy two of the best visitor attractions in Cumbria:

A full day tour every Wednesday departing from Windermere at 9.00am, Ambleside at 9.15am and Coniston at 9.45am.

The railway, affectionately known as La’al Ratty, runs from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park, to Dalegarth. Its journey takes it across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stops, to its final destination some seven miles up the line: Boot Station. The journey itself was one of Wainwright’s favourites, crossing seven miles of spectacular scenery to the foot of England’s highest mountains, the Scafell Range (3,209ft).

There is a wide range of facilities at both ends of the line plus the engines haul a range of open/closed carriages to guarantee a great day out.

Muncaster is a historic haunted Castle, set in 70 acres of stunning Gardens set against the back drop of the Lake District fells, and home to the “Hawk and Owl Centre” with a large number of these amazing birds. You will have the chance to see a wonderful flying display of these fabulous birds of prey.

See the Castle in all its glory and hear from the Pennington family who have resided in the Castle since 1208, about Muncaster’s colourful history and residents.
